AX Group Wins Gold Award for Family Business of the Year at the Malta Business Awards
We’re proud to announce that AX Group has been awarded the Gold Award for Family Business of the Year at the Malta Business Awards 2024, organised by the Malta Chamber of SMEs in collaboration with Malta Enterprise. This prestigious accolade recognises our commitment to family values, innovation, and our contributions to Malta’s business landscape. Founded by Angelo Xuereb 50 years ago, AX Group has grown into one of Malta’s leading organisations. Operating across diverse sectors including Hospitality, Care, Real Estate, Development, Construction and Renewable Energy, the Group remains a family-led business. Speaking at the award ceremony, Angelo Xuereb reflected on the Group’s journey: ‘‘From a young age, I aspired to achieve success in my career. Fifty years ago, I started with just two employees; today, AX Group directly employs over 1,200 people. However, the greatest satisfaction in my life is my family. I have always encouraged my children to follow their own paths and build their success on the values of creativity, determination, and integrity. I am proud to see Claire heading the Hospitality and Care divisions and Denise leading the Development, Construction, and Real Estate divisions, both excelling in their fields. Every project brings new challenges, but we always face them together as a family.’’ The Malta Business Awards, held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, celebrate excellence in Malta’s business landscape. Originally acquired in a state of neglect, this historic building has been restored into a prestigious office address, offering 1,248 square metres of luxury space that blends timeless elegance with the needs of the modern workplace. This €8,000,000 investment marks a significant milestone in AX Group’s portfolio, expanding and strengthening the company’s footprint in commercial real estate. The acquisition and restoration of Palazzo Lucia is aligned with AX Group’s ongoing commitment to preserving Malta’s architectural heritage and to create high-quality assets that provide long-term value to our investors. The AX Development and AX Construction teams, led by Group Architect James Attard and Senior Design Architect Justin Coppini, along with independent architect Philip Micallef A.& C.E., have brought life into the building through the introduction of a private office concept. Original features, such as the intricate floral motifs scattered throughout the building, the timber coffered ceilings, original wrought iron work and the iconic curved balcony were meticulously restored. The rich architectural grammar of the Palazzo shines through the sensitive and well-studied interventions required to bring the building into the 21st century. “Transforming buildings of cultural significance is a passion that drives us,” says Denise Xuereb, Director of Construction and Development at AX Group and CEO of AX Real Estate. “Our focus goes beyond just development; we are dedicated to creating high-quality projects that respect and enhance their surroundings. An Election of Directors took place, resulting in the appointment of Ms. Claire Zammit Xuereb as a new director, along with the reconfirmation of Mr. Stephen Parsi and Dr. Christian Farrugia to our board.
