AX Group is proud to announce the stunning transformation of Palazzo Lucia, an 18th-century Baroque palazzo in Valletta. Originally acquired in a state of neglect, this historic building has been restored into a prestigious office address, offering 1,248 square metres of luxury space that blends timeless elegance with the needs of the modern workplace. This €8,000,000 investment marks a significant milestone in AX Group’s portfolio, expanding and strengthening the company’s footprint in commercial real estate. The acquisition and restoration of Palazzo Lucia is aligned with AX Group’s ongoing commitment to preserving Malta’s architectural heritage and to create high-quality assets that provide long-term value to our investors. The AX Development and AX Construction teams, led by Group Architect James Attard and Senior Design Architect Justin Coppini, along with independent architect Philip Micallef A.& C.E., have brought life into the building through the introduction of a private office concept. Original features, such as the intricate floral motifs scattered throughout the building, the timber coffered ceilings, original wrought iron work and the iconic curved balcony were meticulously restored. During this time, the resort has enjoyed a successful summer season. Guests from near and far have had the privilege of immersing themselves in everything our reimagined hotel has to offer. With completely refurbished rooms and interior spaces, including the reconstruction of the lido, as well as a new range of amenities and dining choices, the transformation continues to garner positive feedback. With hotel operations now running smoothly, we believe this is the perfect opportunity to acquaint you with the essence of AX ODYCY and its promise of being one destination with endless possibilities. Navigating challenges and celebrating successes From the outset, the vision for the AX ODYCY was was characterized by its bold and extensive approach.. It was conceived not only as a revitalisation of the former Suncrest hotel but also as a catalyst for us to transform Qawra into a modern tourism destination. Construction commenced in late 2021 and reached successful completion in the spring of 2023. Despite the demanding 18-month timeline and the inherent complexities of the project, including structural reinforcements for the hotel extension, all the teams within the AX Group rallied together to uphold our promise to deliver. We achieved our goal of opening in time to capitalise on Malta’s peak tourism season. This comprehensive development and full-scale refurbishment involved the addition of four new floors to the existing structure, expanding our guestroom count to over 600. These accommodations cater to a wide spectrum of preferences, ranging from economical options to luxurious suites, with either inland view or panoramic sea views. In addition to the construction complexities, we faced several operational challenges in order to recruit and train our staff within a tight timeframe to ensure seamless operations upon opening. Thanks to successful recruitment initiatives, we managed to bring onboard the right talent. Warm, professional hospitality values are synonymous with AX Hotels, and we are committed to upholding them at AX ODYCY. Progress update on the lido Progress continues on our brand-new lido, located along the Qawra coast. The lido is set to feature an assortment of outdoor dining options, a waterpark, and a safe kid's paddle pool, ensuring endless fun for all ages. This endeavor also presented numerous challenges, due to the distinctive shapes and intricate seawall posing unique construction hurdles. Nevertheless, we have now reached an advanced stage of completion. As we push forward, we've set our sights on an anticipated opening date in Q2 2024, promising an exciting addition to AX ODYCY. The ODYCY design narrative The design and attention to detail at AX ODYCY have left an impression on all who have walked through its doors. From the beginning, we were set on not just achieving a modern aesthetic but also crafting a cohesive design narrative that would take guests on a journey throughout their stay with us. The design concept for ODYCY draws inspiration from cruise liners and airports. We've brought this concept to life by creating distinct “nooks” within our communal spaces, each with its own unique character and a varied sense of space. While these spaces each possess their individual charm, they collectively contribute to the overall experience at ODYCY.
