Introducing AX ODYCY Hotel

A few months have passed since the much-awaited reopening of AX ODYCY, formerly known as Seashells at Suncrest, and it has been nothing short of a remarkable journey.

During this time, the resort has enjoyed a successful summer season. Guests from near and far have had the privilege of immersing themselves in everything our reimagined hotel has to offer. With completely refurbished rooms and interior spaces, including the reconstruction of the lido, as well as a new range of amenities and dining choices, the transformation continues to garner positive feedback.

Navigating challenges and celebrating successes

From the outset, the vision for the AX ODYCY was was characterized by its bold and extensive approach.. It was conceived not only as a revitalisation of the former Suncrest hotel but also as a catalyst for us to transform Qawra into a modern tourism destination.

Construction commenced in late 2021 and reached successful completion in the spring of 2023. Despite the demanding 18-month timeline and the inherent complexities of the project, including structural reinforcements for the hotel extension, all the teams within the AX Group rallied together to uphold our promise to deliver. We achieved our goal of opening in time to capitalise on Malta’s peak tourism season.

This comprehensive development and full-scale refurbishment involved the addition of four new floors to the existing structure, expanding our guestroom count to over 600. These accommodations cater to a wide spectrum of preferences, ranging from economical options to luxurious suites, with either inland view or panoramic sea views.

In addition to the construction complexities, we faced several operational challenges in order to recruit and train our staff within a tight timeframe to ensure seamless operations upon opening. Thanks to successful recruitment initiatives, we managed to bring onboard the right talent. Progress update on the lido

Progress continues on our brand-new lido, located along the Qawra coast. The lido is set to feature an assortment of outdoor dining options, a waterpark, and a safe kid’s paddle pool, ensuring endless fun for all ages. This endeavor also presented numerous challenges, due to the distinctive shapes and intricate seawall posing unique construction hurdles. Nevertheless, we have now reached an advanced stage of completion. As we push forward, we’ve set our sights on an anticipated opening date in Q2 2024, promising an exciting addition to AX ODYCY.

The ODYCY design narrative

The design and attention to detail at AX ODYCY have left an impression on all who have walked through its doors. From the beginning, we were set on not just achieving a modern aesthetic but also crafting a cohesive design narrative that would take guests on a journey throughout their stay with us.

The design concept for ODYCY draws inspiration from cruise liners and airports. We’ve brought this concept to life by creating distinct “nooks” within our communal spaces, each with its own unique character and a varied sense of space. While these spaces each possess their individual charm, they collectively contribute to the overall experience at ODYCY.

The core of our design philosophy is to spark guests’ sense of exploration and discovery as they wander through the property.

• Espresso: Set in the hotel’s lobby, Espresso, grab and go outlet is the perfect spot for families and friends to unwind. It offers specialty coffee, healthy juices, and balanced snacks.

• Sidestreet: This casual bar serves premium drinks, cocktails, and classic spirits in a welcoming atmosphere, making it ideal for a pause before island adventures or a relaxing evening with friends and family.

• Medusa Sky Bar: Set on the 10th floor of the hotel, this fashionable sky bar offers stunning panoramic views, expertly crafted drinks, and delectable bites. This adults-only space draws inspiration from magic and myth, creating an immersive atmosphere.

• Deck & Keel: These two contrasting contemporary buffet restaurants promise an array of dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Deck, located on the right side of the lobby, boasts a bright and colourful backdrop, while the lower-ground floor Keel exudes a wine cellar-inspired ambiance with dark walls, timber beams, and striking floor patterns.

• Minoa: Located on the 11th floor, Minoa is a rooftop restaurant that offers 360-degree panoramic views of the Qawra coast. The menu celebrates the diverse cuisines of the Mediterranean, from North Africa to Southern Europe and the Middle East, delivering a medley of tastes and flavours.

• Cheeky Monkey Creperie: Coming soon, Cheeky Monkey Creperie is the go-to stop for snacks and confections, offering delicious sweet and savoury crêpes, fluffy homemade waffles, and a variety of ice creams.

• Trattoria Riccardo: A traditional trattoria with a modern twist, Riccardo specialises in authentic Italian food. Its wood-burning oven infuses dishes with rustic charm. The restaurant also includes a spacious children’s play area ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere.
